Bridging ancestral wisdom with visionary futures through interdisciplinary research, creative practice, and community engagement since 2026.
Explore Our WorkThe Arkansas Institute of Folk-Futurism (AIFF) is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to exploring the intersection of traditional folk practices and speculative futures.
Founded in 2026, the AIFF emerged from a growing recognition that solutions to our most pressing future challenges may be found in the wisdom of the past. We believe that folk traditions—from storytelling and craft to agricultural practices and community organization—contain vital knowledge for building sustainable, equitable, and culturally rich futures.
Our institute brings together artists, researchers, technologists, and community practitioners to explore how folk knowledge can inform and transform our approaches to technology, ecology, social organization, and cultural expression in the 21st century and beyond.
Based in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, we work in partnership with communities across the region and around the world to develop new models of cultural innovation that honor tradition while embracing transformation.
